iOS 6 To iOS 5.1.1 Downgrade Guide For iPhone, iPad 2 & iPod Touch 4G; Redsn0w 0.9.15b2 Needed

Two days back I made a detailed post on how to jailbreak iOS 6 on A4 devices which includes iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G and iPhone 3GS (click here for the guide). Today I will be making a detailed post on how to downgrade from iOS 6 to iOS 5.1.1 on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 4G.

Although we have been successfully downgrading the iOS version on these devices in the past, the new Redsn0w tool makes doing the job even simpler. If you have had your device jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1, your SHSH blobs must be present on the Cydia server. If you already know how to save SHSH blobs to your computer, we assume you have iOS 5.1.1 blobs saved locally.

Now talking about the new redsn0w tool version 0.9.15b2, it makes iOS 6 downgrade on A4 and older devices much easier with an extra set of restore options which we shall be talking about in this post.

Before you start off with the downgrade guide, please read the requirements section given immediately below.

REQUIREMETNS

  • For iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPod Touch 4G, to perform the downgrade from iOS 6 to iOS 5.x (5.1.1,5.0.1,5.0) all you need is the respective SHSH blobs. So if you have them saved on the computer, it is great or else you can fetch them from Cydia.
  • If you own an iPad 2, downgrading from iOS 6 to iOS 5.x will require SHSH blobs for both iOS 5.x and iOS 4.x.
  • iDevices powered by A5+ chips cannot be downgraded from iOS 6 yet. These can only be re-restored from iOS 5.x to the same version, provided you have not performed an OTA update.

How To Downgrade iOS 6 to iOS 5.1.1 – The Guide

  • First and foremost you need to download the IPSW file for the respective iOS 5.x firmware.
  • Download the Redsn0w 0.9.15b2 Tool – Windows (here) and Mac (here)
Now open the executable file of the redsn0w tool (which is inside the ZIP file you downloaded from the link given above). Make sure you run the file by right-clicking on it and selecting Run as Administrator.

1. Now from the tool interface, click on Extras.

2. Also connect your device in normal mode to the computer via the USB.

3. On the next page, select Even More (the last option at the bottom). This is the new feature as in the previous version of the tool users had to stitch SHSH blobs to the respective IPSW files. So here the tool brings more convenience to us.
