Slow Motion Video Recording On iPhone 4,4S and iPad 2,3 With Slo-Mo Mod

Last week I covered Live Effects Enabler, a tweak exclusive to iPhone 5 and later, that adds live effects to stock Camera application on older generation devices such as the iPhone 4, 4S and the iPad.

The live camera effects is not the only feature which has been kept exclusive to newer generation models. Slow motion video recording is another feature the older generation devices are deprived of, but if you have a jailbroken device you can get this feature. Slo-Mo Mod is the name of the tweak in question which adds slow motion video recording capability to iPhone 4 & 4S and iPad 2 & 3.

To get the tweak, head to BigBoss repository from where it can be downloaded for free, and then follow the guide below to make it work properly.

NOTE: Before you install Slo-Mo Mod please uninstall all the other Camera tweaks, including Live Effects Enabler if you have it installed. Other tweaks may conflict with Slo-Mo Mod and crash the Camera app.

After you have installed the package, respring your device and unlock it. Now head to Settings and access Slo-Mo Mod’s settings page. Now, let us start configuring the tweak as it is important or else you will not be able to record videos in slow motion.

On the top of the settings page is MOGUL FRAMERATE which would be 60 by default. But users who are installing the tweak on iPhone 4, 4S or iPad 2, 3 must change it to 30 fps which is the maximum supported by them. So changing the frame rate from 60 to 30 should be the first thing you do. Going further down there is a Force Slo-Mo For All Videos toggle which you can enable if you want all of your videos to be recorded in slow motion.

Just below Force Slo-Mo toggle is “Enable Slo-Mo” toggle which is the master toggle and would be enabled by default. Scroll further down and you would be able to change the Slo-Mo rate which would be set to 0.25 by default. The slider can be used to change the rate of playback. For users who set the frame rate to 30, the slow motion video will be played at 30 x 0.25 = 7.5 fps.

Lastly, at the bottom of the page you have a volume slider which can be used to set the volume of the slow part of the video. The maximum value that can be set is 2.0 while the default value will be 0.15. The more the value, the normal the slow part of the video will sound.

Once you have made the aforementioned changes, it is time to launch the Camera app and see the Slo-Mo section. Swipe to the extreme left and there will be a new Slo-Mo section with the record button and the default frames per second value next to it.

How Well Does Slo-Mo Mod Work

Undoubtedly, it is a wonderful tweak and works well. The only issue I have is that it conflicted with Live Effects Enabler and I had to uninstall the latter to make Slo-Mo Mod work. All issues aside, the tweak works as advertised and is a must have if you own an older generation device.
