Run iPhone Apps In Full Screen Mode Without Status Bar: Maximization Cydia Tweak

The status bar at the top of your iPhone screen is a useful thing as it displays loads of information such as the the network strength, battery status, time, and even the respective icons for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi etc. It is definitely one of the most desired features as without the status bar the screen would look incomplete as we are used to the status bar.
But is is helpful always ? Though it is helpful most of the times but in a couple of cases it should have an auto hide option, I feel. Let us say you are watching Youtube videos, wouldn’t you like to play them in full screen mode? Wouldn’t you wish to use the iPhone in full screen mode, without the status bar?
The little extra space that is available at the top could be used to view applications in full screen mode and this is how you can do so. Maximization is an interesting tweak hosted on insanelyi repo which permanently hides the status bar and lets you use the full size of the screen. It is available for free but you need to have insanelyi repository added to the sources list. This is how you add the repo.
In the image below I am running Safari in full screen mode and I have to admit that the screen looks much better now as the status bar is gone.
I know to many it does not sound good that the status bar will disappear permanently as not all apps are meant to be enjoyed in full screen mode. Do not worry as under the tweak settings in stock iPhone Settings app, you have full control over which apps the status bar should be displayed in. Under Maximization settings you can use the toggles to enable full screen mode for the apps you like.
This is not the only app of its kind but it is certainly better than the existing apps. If you wish to hide the status bar as well as the dock using a single tweak, then you can download SBSimplify from Cydia.

- Open Cydia, and go to Manage
- Click on Sources and hit the Edit button present at the top right corner
- Now hit Add which should appear on the left top corner
- Now in the pop-up window, enter http://repo.insanelyi.com.
- Click Add Source and further click Add Anyway. That’s it.
