Front HDR Cydia Tweak For iPhone Adds High Dynamic Range Capability To Front Camera

In 2010, Apple rolled out the HDR (high dynamic range) feature with iOS 4.1 for the iPhone’s built-in Camera app. Impressively, HDR improved the realistic aspect of the otherwise fake and over-processed pictures, and is now of the features that sets apart Apple devices from other smartphones.

For those of you who do not know how Apple’s version of high dynamic range feature works, read the next few lines carefully. A high dynamic range image is a combination of a series of photographs captured in succession, but at different exposure levels. These successive shots are combined together into one shot which is complete in all aspects – shadows and highlights, eventually making it appear very realistic.

Apple’s version of HDR takes three pictures in succession and clubs them together to put out a brilliant image.

Why we are talking about HDR here is because the stock Camera app on iOS comes with this feature but as you may have noticed, it works only for the rear camera. To click a HDR image, you open the camera app, tap on the Options button that appears near the top, and toggle HRD On. But when you switch to the front facing camera, the Options button disappears.

iPhone users who love taking pictures of themselves and friends using the front facing camera, and have their devices jailbroken, can now get the HDR feature for free.

Cydia has been recently updated with a tweak called Front HDR that adds the HDR capability to the front facing camera. To install the tweak head to Cydia, and search Front HDR (without spaces). After installing the tweak, respring your device.

Although the feature gets enabled by default, you may open Front HDR’s settings page from the stock Settings app. From there you can enable or disable the tweak as per your requirement.
To use HDR on your device’s front facing camera, open the Camera app and switch to the front camera. Now tap on the Options button (this will appear indicating the tweak is working), and toggle HDR to On.

Now you can take HDR pictures on your Apple device using the front facing camera and for sure the improvement is evident in the images.

I hope this tweak will help you. Do share the post if you like it.
